The “Garante” (Italian APD), has issued a statement in which it gives its opinion on the collection and processing of personal data by companies for the purpose of preventing the spread of the coronavirus. The statement is the result of hundreds of inquiries received by both private and public entities.

The Garante has pointed out that employers are prohibited from collecting, a priori and systematically or generally, information concerning the presence of the symptoms in workers or in their close contacts. The collection of this information, as well as the addition or creation of “profiles”, is the responsibility of the health authorities.
