The Internet Crime Compliance Center (IC3) received 467,361 complaints in 2019 – an average of nearly 1,300 each day – and recorded more than $3.5 billion in losses from individual and business victims. The most frequent complaints were phishing and similar schemes, nonpayment or delivery scams, and extortion. Corporate email compromise (CEB), or email account compromise, has been a major concern over the past few years. In 2019, the IC3 registered 23,775 complaints about the BEC, resulting in more than $1.7 billion in losses.
